What is stirring in your heart?

We all experience heartache, confusion, or questions around purpose and life’s meaning. And we all need support. In the spiritual counseling space, you are invited to delve more fully into what wants to be known, healed, and tended. This may mean naming fears you seldom word aloud, facing the inner critic, or reconnecting with your essential belonging in the world and in your life. Sometimes suffering is intensified when we judge our feelings or experiences as unworthy or “not normal.” We may hide our truth from others and pretend everything is “perfect.”

In private practice, I work with individuals, couples, and organizations through spiritual counseling sessions. Here, we explore the full spectrum of your experiences, the joys and the sorrows.

Together, we delve into your inherent wisdom, spirit, and your connection with what you find sacred.

WHY SEEK SPIRITUAL COUNSELING?

Grief and loss are weighing on your heart. Grief can show up in different ways. There is the grief that comes with the loss of a loved one. There is the grief that comes with the passage of time, missed opportunities, roads not taken. Parts of your life that have not unfolded the way you have helped they would. Individuals experiencing grief through the loss of a loved one, or the sense of loss that comes with the passage of time, reflecting upon relationship shifts, job changes, and unplanned changes.

You feel torn about something deeply important in your life such as marriage, career, health, or relationships. Often this shows up with “What should I do?” or “I feel torn. Sometimes, this also brings persistent sense of pressure to make a major decision.

Something big is happening in your life – or something big is not happening in your life.

Life circumstances have changed and things feel overwhelming or unclear.

When we send out the bountifulness of our own love, it reaches other people. This love is the deepest power of prayer.

  • Susana has the rare capacity to sit and to listen, at multiple levels, to the story unfolding within the stated narrative and, most profoundly, in the spaces in between.  She engages the soul of an individual or an organization without reducing the suffering or the stated problems to the known dilemma or washing over them in an effort toward an all-too-quick fix.  Susana is able to see what is not yet visible but that which is coming into being within the individual or organization with whom she is consulting and holds this prospective view throughout her work.  Whether working on a short term consulting project for an agency or sitting one-on-one with a client, Susana’s generosity of spirit and dedication to the process of meaning-making are vital and yet difficult to find gifts in our epoch

My Approach

I approach our sessions as a sacred space. The sacred can mean a sense of oneness, loving connection, divinity, transcendence, the mystical, the holy, God. It can be what transpires within and throughout, a texture or experience that exists beyond all names.

Each of us is intricately woven into the mystery we live in, and we are intimately linked. We are also part of interpersonal and social collectives – family, work, society, and other institutions. These often influence how we feel about ourselves. Sometimes we have trouble distinguishing our own values, desires, and emotions from the messages and emotions we carry for others.

I engage our work together with the belief that something beautiful and supportive is transpiring within and around you, and that spirituality is an integral part — and right — of being human.

I offer spiritual support to organizations through confidential one-on-one sessions with employees and small group work.

Bringing spiritual support into the workplace helps address emotionally painful or potentially toxic dynamics that may arise in the work environment. By having a trusted space to express what is happening for someone, spiritual counseling at work can help cultivate a space of belonging, camaraderie, and focus.

With over 20 years of experience engaging with organizations during times of transition, I have had the privilege of working with individuals who face workplace challenges. In response to the fundamental human need to be heard and validated, I combine depth inquiry with spiritual care to provide support to individuals within their work context.

I highly recommend Susana, and wish all organizations had the kind of support she brings. Susana works with staff members in confidential 1-1 visits, engaging each experience as a way to encourage more curiosity and compassion around one’s own life, rather than the self-judgment that easily emerges when people are struggling emotionally. Her capacity to listen with tremendous compassion, openness, and wisdom has been a key part of our dramatic improvements in our culture. She understands our culture and cares deeply about our people and mission; she is truly available when we need to call on her. She is more than a visiting chaplain-counselor; she is a trusted-friend.

“I had a difficult time of being treated meanly by a group dynamic at work, and Susana validated why it felt so painful to be isolated and not valued each day. Her clarity, ability to hear my situation and empathize and validate my hurt helped me to heal and to have the courage to stand up to those mistreating me. Susana affirms the best in people, sees clearly injustice, and helps one find one’s voice. It’s only in a safe, non-judgmental environment that one can have the courage to examine hurt or ambivalence, and heal. Susana provides that space with perceptive understanding, guiding one to self-discovery and growth.”

  • “Spirituality is about our inner belief system, our search for meaning and purpose of life. It is our desire for connectedness to the moment, to self, to others, to nature, to the significant and sacred. It is our longing to experience hope, love, inner peace, comfort and support.”
